Year Round

  • A step above mass produced lager beers, Legend Lager offers the comfort of easy drinkability while also bringing a depth of flavor due to our use of 100% barley malt, yielding a pure, bright malt flavor and a medium body. Modest hopping and cool fermentation temperatures make for a smooth character and a clean finish. | 4.8% alc. by vol.
  • Legend Bohemian-style Pilsner starts with a rich gold color and a firm malt background. A substantial body yields a dry and crisp finish. This beer exudes more aggressive flavors than our Lager. Expect a smooth mouthfeel and a complementing marriage of malts and a hop bite. Floral and spicy hop flavors are evident throughout. | 6.0% alc. by vol.
  • Our most popular beer, Legend Brown Ale is a full bodied version of a British-style Brown Ale. Generous amounts of specialty malts bring flavors of sweet caramel, toasted nuts, coffee, and molasses, all perfectly balanced by a steady but cautious hop dryness. Fruity undertones brought forth by our house yeast strain round out Richmond's favorite brew. Expect a rich, malt-forward brew with a beautiful mahogany tone. | 5.8% alc. by vol.

  • Rich, roasty, and loaded with chocolate and coffee flavors, this sweet black ale is robust and full bodied. This beer is an excellent pair to any meal, especially meat dishes and desserts. A unique brewing practice allows us to achieve a remarkable flavor profile, by marrying flavors of chocolate, coffee, as well as raisin, caramel, sour fruit, and candy. | 5.8% alc. by vol.
  • In the image of an English IPA, Legend Golden is a big, full-bodied brew with the perfect balance between malty sweetness and hop bitterness. Years ago, as an experimental brew, this underdog of a beer found its way into the hearts of Legend patrons and became a cult classic in Richmond. This strong ale sports a rich gold color, an aroma of sweet malt and clean hops, and an earthy, fruity flavor. | 7.6% alc. by vol.
  • Our American style Pale Ale is a hop lover's dream. We craft this copper colored ale to supply a moderate bitterness and an aggressive hop flavor and aroma. Columbus hops pitched early in the boil give a clean, soft bitterness. Late kettle hops include Northern Brewer, Simcoe, and Chinook for plenty of pungent pine and citrus character. Judicious amounts of four specialty malts add counter and depth. Expect a medium bodied brew with an assertive, complex flavor and a dry finish. | 5.5% alc. by vol.

  • The newest addition to our year round line, Legend Hopfest begins with a sturdy barley malt background including Munich and aromatic malts, as well as a few medium kilned malts producing a rich , deep orange colored beer. Step two, the hops: Hopfest sports a distinct piney and fruity aroma. Expect a toasty, earthy malt-forward brew, with bitter flavor lasting throughout. The end result is a full flavored IPA with a strong malt backbone and long satisfying hop finish. | 6.4% alc. by vol.

  • While preparing for a night attack, Confederate Lieutenant General Stonewall Jackson was hit three time by friendly crossfire. A musket round to his hand, elbow and shoulder necessitated the amputation of Jackson’s left arm. Emotionally distraught, General Robert E. Lee, commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, famously declared, “You have lost your left arm, but I have lost my right.” Legend has it, Jackson’s arm never made it to the Confederate burial site. Reverent Beverly Lacy, Jackson’s comrade in war, took the swaddled arm to Jackson’s plantation, Ellwood, and buried it in the family cemetery. Strong Arm Ale is a sweet and full-bodied brew. Through a long kettle boil, the head caramelizes the wort and produces a deep copper color. A touch of smoked malt adds a faint flavor of earthy smoke. A delicate bitterness gives way to the caramel and roasted malt flavors, which provokes a deceptively smooth mouthfeel.

Seasonal & Limited

  • Get ready for a winterized version of a classic Belgian Witbier (white beer). Legend Winter White starts with a blend of Belgian malts and wheat in the mash for a rich, sweet body and tangy crispness. Spicy hops blend in the boil with coriander and orange peel. During fermentation these flavors combine harmonically with a Belgian Trappist yeast strain (banana, pear bubblegum). The creamy mouthfeel of this unique unfiltered winter warmer pairs well with salads, seafood, poultry and pork dishes.
  • To celebrate our 20th Anniversary and pay tribute to our Brown Ale, we brewed a bolder and robust version of the Legend Brown. The imperial version has an even fuller body, stronger malt flavors, and an added hop character. Seven types of barley malt yield a deep, rich body evoking biscuit, caramel, chocolate and coffee flavors. Our house ale yeast adds a level of fruity esters, and a moderate hop bite combines with alcohol warmth for a balanced finish. | 20th Anniversary Ale, 8.3% alc by vol.

  • This collaborative beer is a tribute to one of Williamburg's best kept secrets: the Crim Dell Bridge. Located on the campus of the College of William & Mary, it is one of the most storied and romantic places in the area. Legend has it, if two lovers kiss at the crest of this beautiful bridge, they are fated to be together forever. However, if the relationship sours at any point thereafter, the lady must throw her ex-lover from the bridge. It is also rumored that if an unfortunate soul passes over the bridge alone, he or she will be destined for eternal loneliness. Enjoy this Belgian-style Dubbel with your favorite person or pair it with a nice washed-rind cheese. | Urban Legend Series, 7.4% alc by vol
  • The Urban Legend argues Charlottesville was the inspiration for Dr. Suess’ children’s book, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” This timeless tale references the “Whos down in Whoville,” whom UVA affiliates interpret as the “Hoos down in Hooville.” Those who embrace the legend believe Dr. Suess applied to the University of Virginia, but when he was not accepted, he decided to live in a house way up on the hill to look down on the University. This reflects the story of the Grinch that lives atop a mountain above Hooville, looking down on the town with anger and disgust. To illustrate this tale, Legend collaborated with Starr Hill from Charlottesville, VA, to create the HooVale: a Spiced Holiday Ale brewed with cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla beans.

Seasonal & Limited

  • Warmer weather is drawing near, and Legend Brewing Co. is releasing a new ale to revel in the spring season. For this season’s release, Legend married its enthusiasm for classical beer styles and modernized approach to brewing to create the Legend Ütebier. The name Ütebier mirrors the Norwegian Ütepils, but is infused with German character. The Norwegian-style Ütepils loosely translates to “the first beer you have outside on a sunny day.” We decided to rejuvenate this style to create a unique Ale for the coming of spring. Ütebier pours a deep orange color and the mouthfeel is very crisp. Honey malts evoke a delicate sweetness, which is balanced out by the subtle hop bite. Additional Amarillo hops are added towards the end of the boil to bring out a light, tropical aroma. Available mid February.
