The Taproom Series

  • To celebrate our Anniversary and pay tribute to our Brown Ale, every year we brewed a bolder and robust version of the Legend Brown. The imperial version has an even fuller body, stronger malt flavors, and an added hop character. Seven types of barley malt yield a deep, rich body evoking biscuit, caramel, chocolate and coffee flavors. Our house ale yeast adds a level of fruity esters, and a moderate hop bite combines with alcohol warmth for a balanced finish. | 20th Anniversary Ale, 8.3% alc by vol.
  • Six months of aging brings a soft smoothness to this sweet, complex ale. Legend Tripel is brewed on a Belgian abbey style yeast strain which imparts flavor combinations such as banana, clove, apple, pear, even bubblegum. This is best served with friends and pairs well with mild cheeses, roasted pork, and even Thai food. | Specialty Tap Room Series, 9.2% alc. by vol.
  • Legend Hopfest originated in 2005 as a one-off seasonal beer. Hopfest was brewed to celebrate Legend’s eleventh year of brewing craft beer (we called it micro-brew back then)! Expect a deep golden colored beer with a distinct pine/fruit hop character. This sturdy and balanced IPA layers Amarillo, Simcoe, and Citra hops on top of a sturdy specialty malt background. An additional week of post fermentation dry-hopping yields a juicy aroma. Finding the elusive balance between flavor intensity and approachability, Legend Hopfest IPA has earned a spot as one of the “brewer’s favorites.” We hope you enjoy it as much as we do! 7.5% Alc by Vol.

Urban Legend Series

  • An unlucky 13 days in the Spring of 1864 saw more than17,000 Union and Confederate soldiers slain in battle just 10 miles outside of Richmond. The last major defensive victory for General Robert E. Lee laid the ground for one of the bloodiest battles in the war and one of the most haunted battlefields in Virginia. In the fog that settles over the field, one can detect the smell of gunpowder and hear the boom of cannon fire and the distant cries of dying soldiers echo across the rough terrain. Pouring a straw hue, this warm fermented cold conditioned ale is brewed with citrus peel giving it just a touch of bitterness reminiscent of that crisp foggy day.
  • In 1952, a Ringling Brother's and Barnum and Bailey circus train derailed outside Evington, Va. Thirty-five gorillas escaped the wreckage and ran loose for three decades climbing on houses, peeking in windows, and harassing family pets. Every attempt to recapture and detain a single escapee failed and only one photograph was ever successfully developed. Eventually vanishing into the woods of central Virginia and into urban legend, these unlikely neighbors are the source for the Gorilla Train Coffee Stout. Brewed with locally roasted coffee, this malt-forward ale bears strong roasted malt flavors and hints of dark chocolate and might just have you doing some monkeying around on your own. 6.5% ABV

Year Round

  • A step above mass produced lager beers, Legend Lager offers the comfort of easy drinkability while also bringing a depth of flavor due to our use of 100% barley malt, yielding a pure, bright malt flavor and a medium body. Modest hopping and cool fermentation temperatures make for a smooth character and a clean finish. | 4.8% alc. by vol.
  • Legend Bohemian-style Pilsner starts with a rich gold color and a firm malt background. A substantial body yields a dry and crisp finish. This beer exudes more aggressive flavors than our Lager. Expect a smooth mouthfeel and a complementing marriage of malts and a hop bite. Floral and spicy hop flavors are evident throughout. | 6.0% alc. by vol.
  • Our most popular beer, Legend Brown Ale is a full bodied version of a British-style Brown Ale. Generous amounts of specialty malts bring flavors of sweet caramel, toasted nuts, coffee, and molasses, all perfectly balanced by a steady but cautious hop dryness. Fruity undertones brought forth by our house yeast strain round out Richmond's favorite brew. Expect a rich, malt-forward brew with a beautiful mahogany tone. | 5.8% alc. by vol.

  • Rich, roasty, and loaded with chocolate and coffee flavors, this sweet black ale is robust and full bodied. This beer is an excellent pair to any meal, especially meat dishes and desserts. A unique brewing practice allows us to achieve a remarkable flavor profile, by marrying flavors of chocolate, coffee, as well as raisin, caramel, sour fruit, and candy. | 5.8% alc. by vol.
  • In the image of an English IPA, Legend Golden is a big, full-bodied brew with the perfect balance between malty sweetness and hop bitterness. Years ago, as an experimental brew, this underdog of a beer found its way into the hearts of Legend patrons and became a cult classic in Richmond. This strong ale sports a rich gold color, an aroma of sweet malt and clean hops, and an earthy, fruity flavor. | 7.6% alc. by vol.

Seasonal & Limited

  • Emerging from the heights of Appalachian Mountains, The James River flows down to the banks of Richmond City and beyond, passing through a series of majestic dams and rapids along the way. To show our appreciation for our great friends at the James River Outdoor Coalition and one of the dams in particular, we've named our Summer Seasonal in honor of the iconic Z Dam which connects Pony Pasture to William's Island. This pale-gold ale sports a light body and a clean malt flavor. Refreshing and quenching, Z Dam evokes an acute zestiness driven by a balance of late kettle hops and the addition of ginger, orange, and lime in the boil. Our Z Dam Ale is perfect to enjoy while basking in the sun on your patio, or when toasting a successful descent through the rapids of the mighty James River.
